December 1st

This week PAWS Headquarters called to schedule the date for Emmy to return for her continued training. The date has been set for Monday, December 1st. We'll be taking Emmy home to New York with us for a nice week long vacation and when we return we'll take her back to PAWS. We're very sad that this day has come...but are definitely so proud of our little pup and are excited to see how she does in training. But until then, we're going to enjoy the most of our last month together! Please keep us in your prayers as we get closer to saying good-bye. And for those of you who have raised foster puppies before...any tips to help us cope?

Good luck Emmy! Take LOTS of pictures, when you think you have enough, keep taking more! Lots of hugs and pets and tears, watch lots of videos on youtube of working dogs, that helps me! Sending hugs and doxie wiggles your way from Rizzo!

I wish I had a tip to make it easier, but I don't. I've turned in 2 pups, and the second time wasn't any easier then the first. Just enjoy your last month together, and take lots of pictures! Good luck to Emmy in her training, I'm sure she will do great! And good job to you guys for raising such a great girl! Good luck!!

Hi! I raised Cheeto, Emmy's mom, and four others. Your heart will break, and you'll wonder why you did this to yourself, but then one day you'll see a dog out working and you'll remember the real reason you've put yourself through this roller coaster ride. And then you'll be able to be incredibly proud of Emmy and the work you did with her, and THEN you'll be all excited to get your next one and do it all over again. :-)

Tomorrow I'm taking Emma (Emmy's sister) and her raiser to Chicago to visit Cheeto's new "B" litter. We will each be getting one of the puppies, and I'm already excited to get her. I know going in that there will be great sadness at the end of our journey, but SO much joy and fun during our year together. Ultimately, it's all worth it. And I always remember the words of a little girl I read about many years ago who was raising a puppy to be a service dog - when asked if she would be sad when she gave up the dog, she said "Yes...but some people have to live without their arms and legs. I only have to live without my dog."

Enough said. Best of luck to all of you, and get yourself on the list for another puppy!

It will be a sad day but you'll be so proud of her when she goes home with her forever family. Watch for those training updates the 15th of each month and buy the training tape when she graduates. There is nothing better than seeing your girl do what she was born to do.

I could not agree with Kari more. As we have watched so many dogs leave our home over the last 10 years I know it is only the beginning. The beginning of wonderful stories and relationships with people I have yet to meet. I know all the dogs I have raised are so loved. I have a quote on my wall: "Sometimes when you sacrifice something precious you're not really losing it. You are passing it on to someone else." They were never ours, we only got to love them till they were old enough for the trainers to work their magic. Now that time has come. You have done a wonderful job with her. Good luck Emmy, Miss Purple, make us proud.
